Map Tube
Ed Parsons posted a few days ago on MapTube for Digital Urban:
Digital Urban and the guys at CASA announce the latest iteration of their brilliant
tool to fill the gap between traditional GIS data and Google Maps -
MapTube.
There can’t be a better way at the moment to publish results more
quickly and easily, this is a key tool in publishing the results of GI
Science to the mainstream. It will be interesting to compare this
approach to the upcoming ArcGIS 9.3 functionality. It’s worth thinking carefully how you use this powerful tool, if you
have not already, make sure you catch up on the basics of thematic
cartography, This was the key textbook in my day !Written and submitted from the Ottawa Airport, using its Boingo 802.11 network.
Although I do like MapTube – it’s a sophisticated set of Gmaps mashups – I have two issues with MapTube. The first has to do with the transparency level of the layers they overlay over the Gmaps background. They’re a little too transparent for me. I’m having trouble making out the subtle color differences between categories in many of the layers. I’d also like to view multiple layers at once to at least do some visual analysis across two data layers.
